How do I get to Perisher?

If you plan to fly into the region, Canberra is the nearest airport (3hrs away). Nearly all visitors get to Perisher by driving, and there are a few things you should be aware of when driving in the Snowy Mountains, regardless of which direction you're coming from. Kangaroos and other wildlife are frequently seen near roads, which is a spectacular sight to behold, but you don't want to hit anything. Remember to drive cautiously, avoid driving while tired, and slow down when driving at night.

If you're driving from Sydney, we recommend allowing five to six hours.

If you're driving from Melbourne, it'll take you about six hours.

If you're driving to Perisher from Jindabyne, it's a quick half-hour drive in good weather; keep in mind that properly fitting tyre chains are required in any vehicle other than 4WDs within the National Park.

The National Park entry fee is $29 per vehicle per day. Before you go skiing or snowboarding, purchase your NPWS Annual All Parks Pass online at nswparkspass.info. The new digital passes are instantly valid after purchase (excluding discounted and concession annual passes).

High winds, snow, and ice can make these roads dangerous, so make sure you have your snow chains (2WD cars can be fined if they don't have them), know how to put them on, and drive carefully, braking gently and leaving a safe distance between yourself and the car in front of you. Read our complete guide to snow chains in preparation for your trip.

Most importantly, please be cautious, patient, share the road, and drive to the conditions when driving in the Snowy Mountains. Make use of your fog lights, keep a good distance between yourself and the car in front in case you need to stop suddenly, gently apply the brakes when needed and avoid using hot water to remove ice from your windshield; instead, scrape it away or use the demister.

Perisher Car Parking

Three of four resort areas offer complimentary parking! Perisher Valley has a large car park that is only available for day use. Smiggins offers free day parking as well as a free shuttle service to Perisher Valley from 7.30 a.m. to 6 p.m. (longer during night skiing & boarding)

Guthega has 60 day parking spaces and 50 overnight parking spaces - be aware that snow conditions may affect this parking.

Shuttle Service Is Free! There is a free shuttle service between Perisher Valley and Smiggin Holes. The shuttle service is available from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Pick-ups are available from the Perisher Skitube Terminal turning circle and the metal bridge outside the Smiggins Hotel at Smiggin Holes. Shuttles leave every 15 minutes or so.

Other shuttle services from Jindaybne are also available.

Now you have your Perisher snow accommodation sorted, the last part is to check out the Ultimate Guide to Perisher before your snow trip!
